Red Cross Blood Drive

Each year the local chapter of the American Red Cross runs a blood drive on Mt. Desert Island.  The Bar Harbor (MDI) Rotary club has been associated with this effort for over 20 years.

In addition to members giving blood themselves, our membership calls the list of previous donors to schedule them for the current year and then on the day of the drive, staffs the blood donor center (usually at the local high school) for the afternoon of the blood drive (relieving the high school students who work the morning shift.

Thanks to the leadership of Rotarian Bill Weir, and the support of many club members, the annual Red Cross Blood drive for 2001 obtained 115 pints of blood, from a population that included 60 new donors
